AFI Awards (14th December)

ACS Awards (10th November)
Congratulations to Nick Matthews (Broken Hill) and Maxx Corkindale (The Garden) for winning gold at this year’s Australian Cinematographers’ Society Awards in the feature film and short drama categories.
New Member (8th November)
Cleland Jones joins the team at The Cutting Room. Cleland will head the Red Department and specialise in Red One support and data wrangling (click here for more info about Red Support).
Shorts Festival (6th November)
Jackie’s Spring Palace, Talk Derby To Me, Lure and The Cat Piano have all made the top 60 at this year’s Shorts Festival.
Broken Hill Wins ( 21st September)
Feature film Broken Hill won Best Feature Film in the Under 13’s Category at the 2009 Giffoni Film Festival. The film will be released across the country early next year.
Man Friday (12th August)
Producer David Ngo and director Matthew Phipps have landed a development deal with Movie Extra and Tropfest following the success of their short film Jackie’s Spring Palace.
Over The Fence (10th August)
Congratulations to director Michael Zeitz whose two films Luck of the Irish and Kill Joy have been accepted into the 12th Over The Fence Comedy Film Festival.
Fairies On Air (15th July)
The Cutting Room successfully completed the third series of international children’s show The Fairies using a completely digital pipeline. The first of its kind in the state.
V-Raw (29th June)

JSP in Washington (27th June)
Jackie’s Spring Palace continues its festival run with an official selection in this year’s DC Shorts Competition (click here to visit DC Shorts).
Paper Planes (22nd May)
Producer David Ngo and director Storm Ashwood’s short film Paper Planes has received $50,000 from the SAFC’s Short Film Fund. The film, set in Sudan, will be shot later in the year.
JSP One Million Viewers! (20th May)
Jackie’s Spring Palace has recently become one of the most viewed short film in South Australian history with over 1.2 million viewers. The film has been screened at Tropfest, Foxtel’s Movie Extra Channel and Channel 9. Recently the film has also been accepted to Dungog Film Festival and Perth Revelation (click here to visit the official site).
Salento (18th May)
The Garden, directed by Jennifer Jones, has been selected for Salento International Film Festival in Italy (click here for details about the festival). The film is also screening at St Kilda Film Festival in Melbourne later this month.
Family Demons Winner (7th April)
Congratulations to director Ursula Debrowski for winning the Best Australian Director Award at this year’s A Night Of Horror International Film Festival.
Logies (30th March)
Congratulation to director Luke Jurivicius for recently being nominated for Best Children’s TV Show at the Australian Logie Awards for his animated series Figaro Pho.
St Kilda (25th March)
Congratulations to director Jennifer Jones for recently being accepted into the St Kilda Film Festival in Victoria. The Garden is a short drama about a young boy struggling with the loss of his mother in outback Australia.
Chicago Winner (25th March)
Budaya Productions documentary Fresh Off The Boat won Best Short Documentary at the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival (click here for more details).
Tropfest (23rd January)
Jackie’s Spring Palace premiered to a live audience of over 150,000 on Sunday night at the 2009 Tropfest Film Festival. A DVD of the finalist films will be available in The Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday the 28th of February (click here to view the trailer).
South Australian Screen Awards (14th of January)
Editor David Ngo has been nominated for a best editor award at this year’s SASA. Congratulations to all the other nominees (click here for a full listing).
Family Demons World Premiere (14th of January)
Director Ursula Debrowski’s feature film Family Demons will premiere at A Night Of Horror Film Festival in Sydney on the 30th of March (click here for more details).
Red Pipeline (12th of January)
The Cutting Room has completed work on the first fully produced film in SA shot on the Red One Camera. Directed by AFI nominee Matthew Phipps and shot by multi-award winner Nick Matthews, Jackie’s Spring Palace is an absurdist comedy about a pirate’s battle with The Almighty (click here for more details and images).
Tapeless Workflow (6th of January)
Post production supervisor, David Ngo, is currently busy developing a tapeless workflow for the international children’s TV hit The Fairies. With an extremely quick turnover, the direct to hard drive capturing system coupled with a fully digital pipeline will save days of post production time.

Motion graphics designer Elendil Archer teams up with David Ngo to design Windmill Theatre Company’s new animated logo
Flossy wins Silver at ACS Awards (1st of November)
Congratulations to JoAnne Bouzianis-Sellick for winning Silver in the experimental category for the claymation The Perils of Flossy.
New MPG Chairman (21st of October)
David Ngo has recently been elected the new chairman of the Media Resource Centre’s Member’s Production Group.
Home at The Cutting Room (20th of October)
The Cutting Room houses the edit of Kriv Stenders latest feature film Home. This is Stenders 4th feature film - The Illustrated Family Doctor, Blacktown and Boxing Day.
Flossy wins at WOW (3rd of October)
The Perils of Flossy wins Best Animation at the WOW Festival (World of Women’s Cinema).
FOB goes to New York (27th of July)
Fresh Off The Boat, an episode of the hit SBS documentary series mY Generation, has been selected for the 12th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival, scheduled for September 10-14 in New York City. The film festival was established in 1997 and has premiered films such as Hustle & Flow and Collateral (for more info visit http://www.urbanworld.com/Urbanworld/Welcome.html).
The Cutting Room goes Red (27th of July)
The Cutting Room has begun work on building South Australia’s first 2K DI suite with Red Camera support. The colouring suite will combine the latest hardware and software, and be designed to keep up with the ever-changing world of post-production technologies. The workstation is set for completion early next year.
Judging the AFI Awards (7th of July)
Editor David Ngo was chosen as a judge of this year’s Australian Film Institute Awards. This year the AFI celebrates its 50th Anniversary. This milestone will be celebrated throughout the year, culminating in the institute’s night of nights – The 2008 AFI Awards (For more information visit www.afi.org.au/).
Risking It All tops ratings! (4th of June)
The SBS documentary series, which was completed at The Cutting Room in December last year, received the highest ratings the station had seen in that time slot for over 6 years.
Upgrades and Expansion (25th of April)
The Cutting Room has added a second high-definition online suite. The new room is complete with 46” full-1080p HD LCD and broadcast monitor. Further enhancements are under way including refurbishment to accommodate cinema style viewing.
Cutting Broken Hill (20th of April)
Editor David Ngo jumps on board the American/Australian co-production Broken Hill. Produced by Chris Wyatt (Napoleon Dynamite) and Julie Ryan (10 Canoes) and staring Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) and Tom Arnold (McLeod’s Daughters), the feature film was the first in the world to use Build 15 of the Red One Camera.
The Cutting Room moves to Norwood (10th of April)
After a frantic first year of operation, The Cutting Room has moved to bigger and better premises in Norwood. In its inaugural year the post production facility worked on the lion’s share of independently produced TV in the state, including the hit series Risking It All (Alley Cat/SBS), the confronting documentary Casualties of War (Carousel Media/ABC), the multi-award winning A Fighting Chance (Budaya/SBS) and the upcoming 6-part series mY Generation (Smoking Gun/SBS).
